Welcome Back and Happy New Year! Transferable Skills

Homework:
Grammar Minute 52 and READ!!

This week we will be continuing to work on our Personal Learning Plans - PLPs, also known as
e-portfolios.  We started working on them at the end of the first trimester, but are digging a little deeper looking for more evidence and explanations of how we have met the transferrable skill we are assessing.  Below is a link to a document that shows the 4 Transferrable Skills the 4th and 5th graders work on and the criteria for each skill.

Once the PLPs are complete, the students can share them with you.  Actually, you can see them right now by having your child log on to their school gmail, google account. Here is the link: Transferable Skills.

Example:
Transferable Skill: Clear and Effective Communication- I write a blog for parents and my principal to update them on what is happening in the classroom.  The blog allows me to share pictures, videos, and links to my parents so they are aware of the happenings in our room. When new families move in, they can look back through the blog to get an idea of the classroom their children will be in. Evidence: Link to Blog

This is what we want the students to do.  It makes them look at their learning through their eyes so they can learn how to personalize it to fit their needs.  When you look at the criteria for Clear and Effective Communication, you can see that I hit upon all the criteria with my blog.  We don't expect 4th and 5th graders to hit all criteria with one piece of evidence but do expect them to become familiar with the evidence over the years so they can look at their learning through the lens of the Transferable Skills.
