Killington Day 2

Hi Everyone,
Happy Summer!  Once again, I am in Killington this week for BEST & PBIS......Building Effective Support for Teaching Students with Behavioral Challenges & Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.   Last summer, I attended a strand in Restorative Practices and this year I am back for the Advanced Training.  Here is a pyramid that shows what happens with Restorative Practices.  Tier I is building relationships by holding weekly circles. It's a little fuzzy.  My goal for this year is to use more Restorative Practices.

What An Adventure!!!!

**** I wrote this the day of the hike and have had trouble uploading pictures.  I am keeping the post as I wrote it.

Today was a great day!  Beautiful weather, outstanding views, and smiling faces.  We started up the trail at around 9:45 am. It is a great hike for kids with lots of rocks for steps.  There is a section that is right on a ledge and that freaked me out a bit!  I am afraid of heights.  One of the students asked me why I chose hiking if I was afraid and I explained that you should try to face your fears and get yourself out of your comfort zone.  I told them that I tried to push them out of their comfort zones to help them become stronger students.

We all met at the pond for a snack and rest and then made our way up to the chairlifts at the top of Sterling Mountain.  We had lunch at a lean-to camp.  When we found out that we had quite some time left, we decided to continue our hike around the pond. The trail is called Elephant Head. It was quite a hike!  All in all, we had a great day.

Concert

The kids did an awesome job with today's concert.  Here is a picture of the 5th grade.  I was so impressed with the 4th grade's recorder talents, I forgot to take a picture!
Tomorrow is the concert for grades 6-8. Next Tuesday is the field trip to Sterling Pond.

Final Assignments & Field Trip

Hi Everyone,
With the last 1 1/2 weeks of school here, there will be no more new assignments given.  Each class has assignments they will work on for the next 2 weeks.  Some may finish earlier than others. Enrichment will be given to those who finish before June 15th.

4th
-I Survived The American Revolution book and activities.
-Opinion practice piece.
-Independent choice Opinion piece.

5th
-Ecological Mystery book, vocab. and journal entries.
-Readings about Lake Champlain and the watershed.
-PSA : How do we keep Lake Champlain clean or how do we help clean up Lake Champlain?

ALL assignments must be done to 4th or 5th-grade standard.  Students may have to go back and complete parts of the assignments a 2nd time if I am noticing a lack of effort to just get the work done.

FIELD TRIP-Hike to Sterling Pond
Next Tuesday, June 12th the 4th and 5th graders will hike to Sterling Pond.  Mr. Sweet and I discussed expectations with them today.  Students need to show respectful, responsible, and honest behavior in school to go on an Outdoor Classroom field trip.  A lack of positive behaviors this week may cause a student to not be able to attend this field trip.
