Almost April!

I cannot believe it is almost April! Time has flown by this year with your kiddos.
I have a few updates and I will also be emailing this post, as I noticed there weren't as many families who read the last one.

1. We are planning our field trip to a sugarbush, so please be on the look out for a permission slip or notices for this. We do not have a specific date yet, but it will be before Project Sweet Talk (4/18/19).

2. Although it is "spring", the field and playground are very wet, muddy, and snowy. Your children were given reminders that if they want to play outside in those areas, they should still be wearing all of their snow gear.

3. I am still missing some signed report card envelopes from families, so make sure you are sending those back in.

4. I know many of the fifth graders have been going down to the BNML. Up until students are in middle school, they are supposed to take the bus to the BNML. I checked in with Brenda and Sean and they said if you are fine with your child walking to the BNML, on the days that is their plan, that is totally fine, but I need a written note that gives your child permission to walk down when "pick ups" are dismissed.

Thank you! Please reach out if you have any questions.

New Update!

Hi Families!

We have been working hard on our Project Sweet Talk Essays. Each student should have chosen a topic and that was signed and approved by me. I will also have students take this home tomorrow so you are able to look at it and sign it as well. Please send this back the next day and if you are not able to sign it, please just send it in with your child anyway.

Please be aware, I will be letting the students know tomorrow that we will be doing a writing assessment on Thursday and Friday. This is a local assessment that does need to be completed. They are given a topic and will need to write an informational piece using two articles and a video that they can read/watch.

I am hoping to start a science unit next week where students can start building a small biome in liter soda bottles. If you have any liter bottles that you could send in with your child, that would be appreciated!

Update!

I apologize for not posting more! I will do my best to keep this more updated.
I hope everyone had a fantastic break!

Last week, students worked on their Personal Learning Plans (PLPs). They worked on taking evidence from this year which they felt applied to our transferable skills;  Clear and Effective Communication, Self Direction, Creative and Practical Problem Solving, Informed and Integrative Thinking, and Responsible and Involved Citizenship. They explained why this work/assignment demonstrated their ability to use these skills. We will continue working on these throughout the year.

Project Sweet Talk officially kicked off today! Please look for a form in your child's binder with an overview of our unit. Please sign the bottom of this form and return it to school!

Report Cards will be sent home this Friday with your child!
