In ELA, we are finishing some mid-year assessments.  Fountas and Pinnell, a reading assessment, is just about finished. In this assessment, teachers work 1:1 with a student. The student reads and we check accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. I explained testlets yesterday, and we will be finished with the first one this week. We will study non-fiction reading and writing in ELA.  This will mainly be during Project Sweet Talk, our sugaring unit. The 4th grade learns about the process of sugaring and the 5th grade learns about the sugarbush and maple tree. 4th grade will also be learning about the American Revolution and the 5th grade will learn about the Pilgrims through a simulation of the  Mayflower Journey and setting up a Colony.  These units will take us through the end of the 2nd trimester.
