Next Wednesday, April 4th, the 4th and 5th grades will be going on a Project Sweet Talk field trip.  We will start our morning at Melissa Dion's Stone Hollow Farm.  Our County Forester, Nancy Patch, will meet us there and walk us through Ms. Dion's sugarbush highlighting ways her woods show biodiversity.  We will then make our way to Jessica and Dave Gaudette's sugarhouse to learn about the process of sugaring.  We will have our lunch in the sugarhouse.  A permission slip will be sent home this week.

***** Thursday is a Jay Peak day.

The 4th grade is visiting BFA tomorrow to see a one act play.  We will be leaving at 12:30 and return by 2:30.  Thursday is a skiing day. I will be taking lunch orders for The Abbey tomorrow.  We had a great day today.  Remember, I'm not looking for perfection.  Kids get off task.......it's what they do after a redirection that matters.

Treasure Box

Homework:
Grammar Minute 86

Math is due Friday
4th Graders have a permission slip for the trip to BFA this Wednesday.

Treasure Box

At the beginning of every class, the students get a 4-5 minute break where they can visit the bathroom, get a drink, and chat with friends.  I set a timer and display it under the document camera.  Before the break, the students know what they should be doing once the timer runs out.

When the timer runs out, a popsicle stick is chosen and if the child is doing what he or she is supposed to be doing, then he or she gets to visit the Treasure Box and choose an item.  The popsicle stick goes into a second container. If the student is not doing what he or she is supposed to be doing, then the popsicle stick goes to the second container and I choose another stick. Once all sticks have been transferred to the second container, I place them all back to the first and we start again.

The items are simple, silly, $ Store items, but I believe everyone needs silliness in their lives. And I do appreciate the students being ready to learn when the timer expires.  Here is a picture of what I got on Saturday at the Dollar Tree.  34 items for 10$!!!!!

Snow, Snow go Away!

Homework
Grammar Minute85 and Read
Math is due tomorrow
*****When there are snow days, other than on Mondays, students are to do the next Grammar Minute in the packet that would be the homework if we had had school! Same with Math, if there is a snow day on a Thursday then homework will still be due.  If your child has questions about a problem on the homework and can't complete it at home, they are to see me or Mr. Sweet in the morning to get help.

I am attaching the letter that explains our PBIS system.  This has been shared with you already, but I  always share it again going into the 3rd trimester.    The goal of learning is to have students stay in the classroom and engage in the learning process.  If behavior choices get in the way of learning, then the student(s) will be re-directed.  We need to document the redirects so students are aware of how many they have so they can take steps to regulate their behavior to stay on task.

We are practicing for SBAC this week by completing some interim assessments. Personal Learning Plans for 2nd trimester will be finished this week. Your child will share his or her PLP at this spring’s conference.
We start our part in Project Sweet Talk this week and will go on a field trip in the next two weeks. 4th grade learns about the process of sugaring and 5th grade learns about the maple tree and sugarbush. And.... report cards will be sent home this Friday.

Today in 4th grade, we had students working on many different things!  PLPs, reading DEAR books, and browsing through their new Storyworks Magazine.  I thought, "Well, this would make a great video!"  And then they noticed me and all bets were off!  Seriously, we had a great class today and the PLPs are looking great!
