Read for at least 30 minutes.
We read articles from Scholastic Scope today and practiced our "close" reading. Close reading is careful reading and rereading of a text to understand the features and language used. It is very useful, but very different than what we did when we were in school. We are asking students to use higher level thinking earlier in their school careers so we need to give them lots of practice to use higher thinking when reading. My school years pretty much asked me to read and find the answers in the text. Now we are asking students to read many texts, analyze the information, and then synthesize the information to form a conclusion.
